When I upgraded me iPhone 3G to FW 3.0, everything worked but the camera roll was not saving any pictures I took from the camera. When I shot any picture using my iphone's camera it showed the thumbnail at the bottom left. When I opened the photos app ther the camera roll said no pictures. Even when I restored from my backup most of my previous pics were showing a black thumbnail but they opend fine. So I found an easy way to fix this bug. Here is what u got to do:
Note: Please backup all your pictures before attempting this> 1) Download an application from the app store called "Roll Swap". This app is available for free. 2) Now this app allows you to have more than one camera rolls. 3) What u need to is just swap your present camera roll with a new one using this app. 4) Now u have a new working camera roll, snap a few shots with ur camera. 5) Your camera roll would be working as normal, and your pics will be saved properly. I hope it saves many people's time as I wasted my two days searchign how to fix this bug. Pls press the thanks button if u find this solution useful.

You could easily just set your permissions on the camera roll folder to 0755. Set recursively >_<

But the problem is that this never worked for me, but it is another very good solution which worked for my younger brother on his iPhone 2G FW3.0 but thanks for sharing.
